The
Isle of Wight was the scene of many of Marconi's early experiments. In
1897 he set up an aerial and installed his wireless apparatus in the
grounds
of the Royal Needles Hotel, Alum Bay. The first successful
communication
using this station was between a hired ferry boat. This
letter from Henry Jameson-Davis to Marconi discusses the organisation
for
future experiments, stating that George Kemp and Dr Erskine Murray
would
be present and the use of reflectors and a tapper at Madeira House. |
