This
manuscript letter, on Poldhu Hotel headed paper, was writen to Marconi
by George Kemp. In it he informs Marconi of problems he has experienced
during the construction of masts at the Poldhu station.
Kemp
informs Marconi that although he has received all 'railway metals'
needed,
he has to rely on the help of the local blacksmith to cut them. Also
received
were 8 logs of Pitch Pine. There is mention of Kemp's salary, but only
that he has not approached the head office concerning this matter as he
believes Marconi 'could do the thing much quicker and more quiet', he
adds,
'At the same time I think it a great shame for them to attempt to do me
out of this month's extra pay after your kindness in getting it for
me.'
The letter finishes with mention of the successful link established
between
Crookhaven and Poldhu, and a hope that the signals will be even
stronger
once the masts are correctly in position at Poldhu.
